Fonds of Qadis and Mahkamas (D) 1845 - 1920

This fonds includes a set of registers composed of contracts drawn up by Al Qadi, during the French colonial period, concerning purchases and sales, inheritances and civil status documents such as marriage and divorce certificates, etc. The documents in this collection are considered a continuation of the collection of Al Mahakim Alshari’a documented by the Qadis during the Ottoman period.

Fonds of the General Government of Algeria (E)

The general government of Algeria was created and placed under the supervision of the Ministry of War, under the command of a governor general, by order of July 22, 1834, for the management of the Algerian administration of locals and settlers.

This collection includes a set of series which reflect the activities of the central administration in Algeria and deal with the work of the government office, fine arts, education, public health, public works, development and economic plans and projects for the agricultural, industrial, and commercial sectors, forests, water, labor, and social activity. They include the following series:

  • Office of the Governor General (1E) 1839 – 1964 : 

This series is composed of correspondences received at the Office of the Governor General, sent by different central administrations which come under the General Government of Algeria, as well as all the instructions and decisions promulgated by the governor, concerning the organization of the sectors falling under his governance.

  • Directorate of Civil Services (2E) 1889 – 1962 : 

The series of civil services directorate covers the period from 1889 to 1962. It concerns files on personnel movements, salaries, pensions and other documents.

  • Directorate of the Southern Territories (5E) 1870 – 1962 : 

This series covers the period from 1870 to 1962, it contains files relating to locals affairs; military pensions, Muslim affairs, agriculture, economy, mining, transport, public works, health and finance.

  • Directorate of Public Works (9E) 1880 – 1965 : 

This series includes a set of files and documents produced by the services of the Directorate of Public Works which concern railways, electricity, water and dams, mines, roads and construction, airports and ports during the period from 1880 to 1965.

  • Directorate of Agriculture (10E) 1840 – 1965 : 

This series contains a set of files on agricultural affairs, social and professional affairs, agricultural vocational training, agricultural experiences, livestock breeding. It covers the period from 1840 to 1965. 

  • Directorate of Economy (11E) 1836 – 1965 :

This series covers the period between 1836 and 1965; it contains files concerning the economy, energy, agriculture, import and export, water and forests.

  • Directorate of Water and Forests (12E) 1833 – 1962 :

This series contains files concerning forest resources, forest officials, forest employees, accounting and finance, and the work of the water and forest services between 1833 and 1962.

  • Department of the Interior and Fine Arts (15E) 1864 – 1975 :

This series contains archives files relating to education, public health, civil administration, agriculture, military affairs, religions, elections, etc. between 1864 and 1975.

  • Justice Services Fonds (11E) 1923 – 1961 :

This series is made up of different documents such as circulars and decisions of the military services, publications of the courts and judicial councils, reports and correspondence on May 8, 1945, reports from the scientific police, movement of political parties and associations, court officials and Muslim deputies for the period from 1923 till 1961.

  • Directorate of Public Health (17E1) 1861 – 1962 :

This series contains, on the whole, files of a medical nature, the most important being those of the professional career of employees in the medical and paramedical sector and the movements of civil servants, the administration of hospitals including medical machines and equipments, public health and free medical assistance for mothers and children (AMG), in the period between 1861 and 1962.

  • Directorate of Labor and Social Protection (17E2) 1931 – 1965 :

This series covers topics on work and labor affairs, social action, inspection, social protection and security, vocational training and administrative files of personnel.

Fonds of departments during the colonial period (F)

  • Collection of the Chamber of Commerce of Algiers (1F)  1830 – 1965:

This series is constituted of archival files of which subjects focus on the economic and social history of Algeria, the activities of the chamber of commerce including internal and external trade, taxes, customs, land, sea and air transportation. 

  • Fonds of Algerian Economic Region (2F) 1935 – 1962 : 

This series consists of files which concern the activities of industrial zones, ports, transport, posts and telecommunication, external trade, taxes, and financial and economic affairs in the period between 1935 and 1962.

Archives of the National Movement and National Institutions (G)

  • National Council of the Revolution and the Algerian Provisional Government (2G)  1956 – 1962 : 

This series is composed of a set of archival documents, the first part concerns the activity of the National Council of the Algerian Revolution, and the second part concerns the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic. These include various reports of a political and diplomatic nature as well as administrative organization and financial management, in addition to correspondences exchanged between the Council’s members and  the Government and some photos which documented the activities of the Council and the Provisional Government.

  • The Federation of the National Liberation Front in France (4G) 1954 – 1962 :

 This series is composed of documents which deal with subjects concerning the system of the federation of the National Liberation Front in France, financial and political reports on the organization of the federation, correspondence and photos which show the course and the activities of the federation throughout the period of the Algerian Liberation Revolution.

  • Mass organizations (6G)
The Algerian Red Crescent (6G1) 1956 – 1965:

This sub-series is made up of 480 archival items, it concerns the minutes with the International Committee of the Red Cross, friendly correspondence with some coutries, immigrants and some reports relating to the Front and the Army of the National Liberation.
