Speech of the Director

The idea of creating an environment that stimulates contact and communication has prompted the National Archives Center, to prepare different support mechanisms by providing all the necessary means to ensure effectiveness in performance and improvement of services.
This environment is an unparalleled means that contributes greatly to breaking spatial and temporal barriers, thus there should be flexibility in communicating the archives stored at the Center. 
The Center’s responsibility to preserve the national archival heritage and communicate it to different generations and to serve individuals and societies falls within the high objectives of the Center and its message, embodied in preserving and communicating institutional and individual memory. The Center must collect, receive and classify archives and ensure their protection and preservation by providing conditions and necessities to guarantee their sustainability. In order to serve research and researchers, it is necessary to valorize and define this heritage by preparing various different tools and finding aids to communicate it and make it accessible for different categories of researchers, thus the Center becomes a window to democracy.

The Center’s interest in preserving national memory was also demonstrated through its adoption of a digital transformation policy, with the aim of enhancing capabilities in implementing future programs and projects.

In light of the current and ongoing transformation, the National Archives Center has committed to modernizing all its services, in order to keep pace with new developments and meet the needs of researchers. With the launch of the website, every visitor can wander through the pages of its various spaces to learn closely about the Center’s tasks and its different activities.

This website is a tool of valorization and presentation, and a meeting point for historians and those interested in the field of archives, as it provides an opportunity for knowledge exchange and brings together different professional experiences, and also responds to the needs of researchers and interested people.

The fact that the National Archives Center is placed under the highest administrative hierarchy in the country reflects the great importance given by the Algerian state to Archives sector, which contributes to creating an environment conductive to receiving and distinguished dealing with all categories of researchers.

At the valorization stage of the most important achievements made by the Center since the inauguration of its building in 1989 until 2024, an ambitious strategy was identified which focuses on diversity and achieving quality in the management of national archives.

On this basis, the Center seeks to achieve excellence and quality in performing the tasks assigned to it, by confronting new challenges and enhancing the capabilities of work teams to disseminate the knowledge which contributes in scientific and historical research.

Therefore, efforts must be intensified in coordination with various sectors to protect and preserve the national archival heritage, and provide services to researchers in strict compliance with legislative and regulatory controls.
