Fonds of the Ottoman Period 1516-1830

A collection of peace and trade treaties (1B1) 1505 – 1824 :

This fonds was collected in various ways, including retrieval, gifting, and transfer. The part retrieved from France represents the largest part, as approximately 42 treaties were counted distributed among 17 files related to the diplomatic, military and commercial fields, including the documents on the movement of European ships on the Algerian coasts.

Bayt al-Mal (1B2) 1688 - 1866 :

This series includes 64 registers distributed over 11 items which contain various commercial and financial transactions during the Ottoman period.

Bayt al-Beylik (1B3) 1688 -1866 :

This series contains 368 registers distributed over 36 items. They contain trusts, Wakf properties, external and internal trade, the tax and customs system, and the Janissaries’ life.

Al Mahakim Alshari’a (1B4) 1515 - 1856 :

It includes approximately 14000 original documents distributed over 154 items which contain various contracts, related to buying and selling, Wakf, and civil status contracts such as marriage, divorce, birth, and inheritance contracts.

Correspondence between the Sublime Porte and the Regency of Algiers (2C) 1515 – 1860 :

It includes a collection of correspondences exchanged between the Sublime Port and the Regency of Algiers and other countries, containing approximately 2084 documents distributed over 62 items, the majority of the documents are about the activity of the Ottoman Empire in different economic, social, politic, diplomatic and military fields of life. 

This series has 6 subseries:

  3.  Defter Irada.
  4.  Essalatin.
  5.  Elkharridjia.
  6.  Topkapi.
